About Us

The Radical Critical Theory Circle aims to recover and advance the radical leftist political project of critical theory. Our group of international and interdisciplinary political, social, and media theorists and philosophers began conversations in 2014 aimed at thinking through the untapped or even abandoned thematics associated with critical theory. Some of us associate critical theory with the project of the Frankfurt School. Others anchor it in the broader critical universalisms of Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, and Freud. Still others use it as an index for the deep and broad history of people's struggles: communism, anarchism, feminism, anti-colonialism and revolutionary democracy. Our inquiries are guided not by a name or a program, but by the spirited conversations enabled by our divergent backgrounds and common commitments.

In 2014 and 2015 we met at the Inter-university Centre in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Since 2016, we meet in Nisyros, Greece.
